What are Dental Fillings?
90% of people who are at least 20 years old have had at least one cavity. To put it simply, minor tooth loss is incredibly common. In some cases, the decay is bad enough that we need to perform a tooth extraction, but we always endeavor to preserve as much tooth material as possible.
That’s why we’re proud to offer fillings, which allow us to replace the decayed tooth material without replacing the entire tooth. Learn more about this procedure.
Who’s a Good Candidate for Dental Fillings?
If you’ve lost tooth material, you need to ensure that it’s replaced. Holes in your teeth can lead to speech issues, along with making it more difficult to eat. They’re also places where bacteria can quickly spread, leading to further oral health complications.
We often recommend fillings to patients who don’t need to get their entire tooth replaced. Depending on the nature of your current tooth decay, we may instead recommend inlays or onlays.
What to Expect from Dental Fillings
Fillings function much like your natural teeth, which means they do not require you to change your diet. They are designed to last anywhere from seven to 15 years.
